Individual art therapy for LGBTQ+ teens-adults in New York
Helping you creatively express internal struggles.
You've been to a regular talk therapist but felt like there was something missing; like you weren't getting as much relief or "ah-ha" moments as you thought you would. With art therapy, I'll help you tap into your unconscious so that you can get more out of therapy.
My Approaches
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Feminist Therapy and Trauma Informed CBT is an evidenced-based, structured from of therapy that helps us focus on the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. It is goal-oriented and problem-focused while we learn healthy coping skills and challenge negative thoughts in order for us to feel better.
Feminist Therapy is a person-centered approach where the provider is aware of intersectionality and takes that into consideration when providing treatment and feedback. I'm aware of the language used during sessions and am also aware of and acknowledge how disability, socioeconomic backgrounds, race, class and gender can impact how one operates in the world. To offset the inequalities experienced by the LGBTQ+ community and make mental health care more accessible, I utilize a sliding scale for session rates as needed.
A trauma-informed approach is being aware of and acknowledging trauma that one has experienced and how it goes on to affect mental health, behavior and ability to engage in treatment.
What is art therapy?
Art therapy is an experiential based treatment that utilizes art to explore what brings you to therapy. Sessions are facilitated by a licensed art therapist. Similar to talk therapy sessions, we would start by verbally checking in, then I would introduce a prompt or art therapy directive for you to complete. After, we would discuss the process of making the art and verbally explore themes/issues that were realized while creating. Then, we wrap up and schedule another session.
