Individual talk therapy for LGBTQ+ teens-adults in New York
Helping you navigate feeling overwhelmed so you can feel validated and supported.
You've been feeling increasingly stressed with school or work because you've been distracted trying to explore your sexuality and/or gender expression. With talk therapy I'll help you navigate these thoughts and help you realize your unique identity.
My Approaches
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Feminist Therapy and Trauma Informed CBT is an evidenced-based, structured from of therapy that helps us focus on the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. It is goal-oriented and problem-focused while we learn healthy coping skills and challenge negative thoughts in order for us to feel better.
Feminist Therapy is a person-centered approach where the provider is aware of intersectionality and takes that into consideration when providing treatment and feedback. I'm aware of the language used during sessions and am also aware of and acknowledge how disability, socioeconomic backgrounds, race, class and gender can impact how one operates in the world. To offset the inequalities experienced by the LGBTQ+ community and make mental health care more accessible, I utilize a sliding scale for session rates as needed.
A trauma-informed approach is being aware of and acknowledging trauma that one has experienced and how it goes on to affect mental health, behavior and ability to engage in treatment.
What is talk therapy?
Talk therapy is a discussion based treatment with a licensed provider. During a session we check-in, talk about what has brought you to therapy, recognize thought/behavior patterns and how to change them to be more healthy. Once we've talked for about 50 minutes, discussion wraps up and we schedule another session.
